Automatic Identification System

New AIS Receiver with a Raspberry pi computer have been setup at KG5OUE QTH to provide Data for Vessel-tracker.Com ,AIS is short for (Automatic identification system) it is used to locate ships and vessels while at sea and can provide various information such as Course , Speed , Heading ,Call-sign ,Cargo  etc

The advantages of this project is to get to know more about VHF propagation, the receiver is online 24/24 this can give an idea about the best time to receive faraway ships, main frequency  is 161.975Mhz


The Setup includes :

-True-Heading RX Carbon AIS Receiver
-VHF Vertical Antenna 156-162 Mhz
-Raspberry Pi 2 Model B Computer
